At Cornerstone Audiology our Providers are all Doctors of Audiology.  They have received extensive training in diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss.  We believe strongly that when you get your hearing checked, it should be by someone qualified and by an expert in the industry.

Educational Difference in an Audiologist

A hearing aid dispenser is only trained to conduct hearing tests with the specific aim of selling you hearing aids, only needing a high school diploma and to pass a state exam to practice.

An Audiologist, on the other hand, has to complete undergraduate and post-graduate degrees in audiology. They are trained in a range of hearing-related subjects, including anatomy and physiology, amplification devices, cochlear implants, electrophysiology, acoustics, psychophysics, counseling and sign language.

They have to complete 12 months of supervised on-the-job training and at least 350 hours of patient care. They also must pass a national exam before they can practice and have to continue their professional development by completing relevant courses.

An Audiologist can treat anyone

Hearing aid dispensers can only treat adults. So, if you are worried about the hearing health of your child, you will need to see an Audiologist.

An Audiologist carries out a comprehensive range of tests

While hearing aid dispensers can give you a hearing test to fit you with hearing aids, an Audiologist can examine every aspect of your hearing health. This includes testing how well the different parts of your ear are functioning, your hearing sensitivity, your understanding of speech, whether you have tinnitus, and the function of your auditory nerve.

An Audiologist continues to care for your hearing health

Once a hearing aid dispenser has sold you your hearing aid that is often the end of your relationship. An Audiologist, however, continues to look after you for years to come, monitoring your hearing health through every stage of your life.

So if you want to take good care of your hearing, book an appointment to see one of our Doctors of Audiology at Cornerstone Audiology.
