“I need to get my hearing checked”. Have you ever heard anyone say those words without a hint of anxiety in their voice? Whether you’re getting a blood test or a annual check-up, it is common to feel nervous at the potential outcome of the appointment.  Thankfully,  getting your hearing tested doesn’t have to be in that list as hearing tests are completely painless and non-invasive and our offices are completely comfortable, cozy and full of welcoming team members.

So what will happen when you come to see us at Cornerstone Audiology to have your hearing tested?

The first thing to know is that your hearing test is a complete examination of your hearing health. We’ll be able to find out if you have hearing loss, how severe it is, what type it is and how best to treat it.

Get to know you

First we’ll discuss your hearing and medical history to get some background on your hearing health. Then we’ll talk about your life today, your work environment and any hobbies which may affect your hearing. We’ll also talk about any hearing symptoms you are experiencing.

A physical examination

We’ll look inside your ear canal to see if there is an excessive amount of wax and check that your eardrum is healthy.

The tone test

We’ll check your ability to hear different pitches of sound, from low to high.

The speech test

We’ll check your ability to hear and understand speech in both quiet and noise.  We often test patients ability to understand conversations with increased background noise to determine how well you brain separates speech from noise in a real world situation.

The bone conduction test

A small bone vibrator will be placed behind your ear and this will check how well inner ear responds to sound

The eardrum test

We’ll check how well your eardrum moves in response to sound.

Visit about results

At the end of all of your tests, we will explain the results to you, describing the implications on your life.  If you need treatment, we’ll discuss all your options.
